Greetings jazz aficionado!,
Tuesday night - Aug 6th - It's "The Joy of Sax!" The sound moves us so much. Coleman Hawkins, Lester Young, Sonny Rollins, Stan Getz. What is it about this amazing instrument that makes us melt?
For the last show of the summer we're bringing out the big guns: Special Guest Star: the riveting Greg Johnson on tenor. Don't miss him. On drums, a player who fills all with delight: Ben Lauffer. One of the best trumpet players on the whole West Coast, Cayce Carnahan. And Richard Leiter (natch) on keys/vocals/stories.
7:30 downbeat. But always SRO, so come early.
If you see one Jazz Stories this year, see this one too.
People love hearing jazz...and hearing about it. Musicians like Miles Davis, Charlie Parker and Buddy Rich were original, colorful characters artists who said and did astonishing things. Fortunately their colleagues cared enough to document these moments in stories and pictures and we now have a rich repository of photos and anecdotes about these artists, and about the American songwriters and composers who created the raw material of jazz.
Jazz Stories is a performance of the songs of jazz from its most creative periods intensified with illuminating, funny and touching true stories of the time.
Come hear music and jazz stories you probably have never heard...but will never forget. Hosted by Richard Leiter.
The first Tuesday of every month at Pegasus Books Solano.
