Pegapalooza! Celebrating 45 years of Pegasus Bookstores, May 3-10, 2014  Pegasus Books celebrates 45 years of independent Bay Area bookselling with Pegapalooza!: a week of events, activities, and exclusive sales. Beginning on California Bookstore Day (May 3), events will take place each night of the week between three store locations at Solano, Shattuck, and College Avenue:

Dave Eggers in conversation with Malcolm Margolin

To celebrate California Bookstore Day and the opening date of Pegapalooza, our Downtown store is hosting a unique event featuring two of the Bay Area's leading literary luminaries. The internationally bestselling author and founder of McSweeneys, Dave Eggers, will be in conversation with Malcolm Margolin; renowned author, speaker, and founder of Heyday Books. Moderated by Amy Thomas (President for Life of Pegasus Books), the conversation will center around books, publishing, and operating businesses that are deeply committed to community.

Numbering Our Faults: California Songs

Joe Christiano and Theresa Kelly will host a special presentation of HOOT! for California Bookstore Day. First Person Singular complements its regular series with a monthly, musical open mic based on a theme. A new take on the traditional hootenanny, HOOT! delves into the entirety of popular song - our modern folk inheritance - in programs that highlight our perennial concerns: love, cars, money, summer, and pitching wang dang doodles.

Gopal Slavonic plays Flamenco guitar

Gopal Slavonic trained at the prestigious 'Fundacion de Arte Flamenco Cristina Heeren' in Sevilla, Spain where he studied intensively with leading flamenco guitarists. In 2008, Gopal Slavonic released his second CD 'Dos Orillas' and is the featured guitarist for Northern California's Flamenco del Oro. He was also the featured guitarist in 'Zahara Flamenco Al Andaluz' at The Cowell Theater in San Francisco in 2010. Gopal currently lives in Oakland, California regularly performing and teaching flamenco guitar.
