The British Library Began to Collect Samaritan Manuscripts Almost from the time that they became available to western scholars and in consequence has the largest accessible collection of complete and dated Samaritan manuscripts. The collection is of particular importance since it has provided manuscript support for many of the important publications on Samaritan history, literature, liturgy, theology and codicology in the last 200 years. This new catalogue is based on modem codicological methodology and includes a short introduction to the codicology of Samaritan manuscripts in general, a description of the Samaritan manuscripts in the collection, an indication of where they have been utilised in publication by scholars and a standard detailed description of each manuscript. Indexes provide a key to the scribe, owners, contents, and a basic bibliography of works relating to the collection. A photographic sampling of the collection serves as a guide to Samaritan palaeography and scribal habits.
