First Person Singular

The great characters of literature come to life as local actors (and other dramatic types) perform stories, novel excerpts, and narrative non-fiction in a series of themed evenings designed to keep you riveted.

American Booksellers For Free Expression

The American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression is the bookseller's voice in the fight against censorship. Founded by the American Booksellers Association in 1990, ABFFE’s mission is to promote and protect the free exchange of ideas, particularly those contained in books.

Lee Relvas, artist

Versatile, multi-talented artist whose work is also featured in our stores.

California Poets in the Schools:

1) Helps students throughout California recognize and celebrate their own creativity, intuition and intellectual curiosity through the creative writing process.

2) Provides students with a multicultural community of trained, published poets who bring their experience and love for their craft into the classroom.

Ian Huebert/ The Milk Machine

Huebert's work has appeared in McSweeneys and The Believer, as well as the online magazine, The Rumpus.net. We've been lucky enough to have this former Pegasus staffer's fine graphics for store use, including our handsome gift cards.

River of Words

Since 1995, River of Words has conducted training workshops for teachers, park naturalists, grassroots groups, state resource agencies, librarians and others to help incorporate observation-based nature exploration and the arts into their work with young people. River of Words’ multidisciplinary, hands-on approach to education nurtures students’ creative voices as well, through instruction and practice in art and poetry.
