FIRST PERSON SINGULAR presents Old Haunts

FIRST PERSON SINGULAR: Stories in Character presents Old Haunts at Pegasus Books on Solano, Wednesday, October 27, 7:30 pm

You are warmly invited to Pegasus Books SOLANO's next First Person Singular performance. This coming Wednesday, we present Old Haunts - three distinctly American chillers for Halloween (or Election Day - you decide).

First up is a little-known work by Barry N. Malzberg called "Away" - about a long-dead educator whose spirit returns in protest whenever some American hysteria (in this case The McCarthy hearings) threatens to undermine our freedoms. We're setting this rather comic piece to Charles Ives' "The Unanswered Question" to underscore it's unsettling qualities (one of which is continued relevance). It will be performed by local actor and filmmaker, Colin Johnson.

Next, in what promises to be a harrowing performance, we have "The Yellow Wallpaper," by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. First Person Singular favorite Theresa Kelly will bring this classic depiction of a woman going mad to life. Here she is, in an entirely different mode, from one of our first presentations, Welty's "Why I Live at the P.O."

Finally, First Person Singular becomes First Person Plural as we present a group performance of Faulkner's collectively-told masterpiece, "A Rose for Emily." Johnson and Kelly (who happen to be husband and wife) will be teaming up for this effort, and joining them to round out Faulkner's hamlet will be presumptuous Yankee Joe Christiano, and a special new addition to our small but growing company: actor Julia McNeal. Julia played the role of Pearl in Hal Hartley's The Unbelievable Truth, has been featured in television's Law & Order, and many New York and Bay Area theater productions.
