Simon/ Pulse YA authors Amy Reed and Jason Myers
Start: Feb 9 2010 7:30 pm

Join us in welcoming Amy Reed, who will read from her Young Adult novel, Beautiful, and Jason Myers whose newest YA novel is The Mission. We are pleased to continue our Young Adult reading series, as this reading follows events with Frank Portman and Sherman Alexie.

Reed's powerful, raw novel has been called a modern day Go Ask Alice. Beautiful has garnered notice from the literary community, including Ellen Hopkins, author of Crank, who says of Reed's work, "Beautiful is stark, disquieting and, quite simply, riveting. Amy Reed is an author to keep on your radar."

The Mission exemplifies the best of the Simon/ Pulse imprint. Gritty, edgy, real life fiction that young readers seek out. When Kaden's brother is killed in Iraq, Kaden takes an unforgettable trip that forever changes his life.

Erica Bauermeister reads from her novel The School of Essential Ingredients
Start: Feb 18 2010 7:30 pm

We are pleased to welcome fiction writer and passionate cook Erica Bauermeister, who explores the profound insights that food can offer in her mouth-watering and exquisitely written debut novel, The School of Essential Ingredients.  Join us for a luscious evening.

At Lillian’s restaurant, a group of eight women and men from different stages in life gather for a cooking class taught by a woman with a magical gift for both food and friendship.  It soon becomes clear, however, that each student comes seeking a recipe for something beyond the kitchen.  The elements of love, sex, grief, joy, and self-discovery mingle into a complex and intriguing mélange.
